Transition words for Englsih

To improve your writing you need to make sure that your ideas, both in sentences and paragraphs, stick together or have coherence and that the gap between ideas is bridged smoothly. One way to do this is by using transitions - words or phrases or techniques that help bring two ideas together. Transitional words and phrases represent one way of gaining coherence. Certain words help continue an idea, indicate a shift of though or contrast, or sum up a conclusion. Check the following list of words to find those that will pull your sentences and paragraphs together.


For continuing a common line of reasoning:

consequently
clearly, then
furthermore
additionally
and
in addition
moreover
because
besides that
in the same way
following this further
also
pursuing this further

To change the line of reasoning (contrast):

Guidelines For Review of Documentary

Expected work from students
After showing the documentary, students will be asked to prepare short review about the concerned topic. This particularly will help to generate analytical, decision making, and writing skill to the students. Review of documentary should contain the following parts:
  • About documentary
  • Aspects covered by documentary like economic, political, entrepreneurship etc
  • Lessons learnt
  • Implications Guidelines regarding the documentary review
Students should strictly work in their respective groups and follow the following criteria for writing their review:
  • Page Setup with A4 size paper
  • Line space with 1.5 at printed form
  • Font of Times New Roman
  • Font size of 12
  • Not exceeding 400 words
  • Deadline 4 days after watching the documentary

Smart Project Title

Group A: Social media marketing
Social Media Marketing is a new buzz word. Businesses around the world are using social media to acquire new customers, engage existing ones, and grow their sales. Your task is to write a report that describes what social media marketing is, what its advantages and disadvantages are, What kind of social media are available and which media is good for what purpose. Acetravels.com, a leading travel portal in Nepal, recently reported that it now has more than 100,000 fans in facebook page. Your report should also include a section on how Acetravels.com is using social media to expand its business. Finally, state your opinion on if organization like Apex College can use social media to meet its business objectives. Why yes and why not?

Group B: Facebook VS Google plus

Social Networking is a hot field. There is facebook, there is MySpace, and now Google has jumped into the bandwagon by launching its own social network called Google plus. Your task is to study what social networking is, why it is so popular, and are advantages and disadvantages. Moreover, you will do a comparative study of Google Plus and Facebook and you will point out how the two differ. Finally, you will review what Google is doing to beat Facebook in social networking space.


Group C: Cyber crime

Internet is growing popular in Nepal as kids, youngsters, and even senior citizens are starting to use search engines, social networks, and facebook. As useful as the Internet is, there is also a dark side of the web – crooks are using the Internet to harass, defame, and damage reputation of other people. Your goal is to study various types of cyber crimes occurring in Nepal and propose a new plan to the Nepal Police to combat such crimes.


Group D: Internet Usage

A recent study in the US showed that the Americans spend most of their time in the Internet using search engines. This is followed by using social media like facebook. The third position is held by email which is followed by the Instant message. Do a similar research about what Nepalese are doing online. Your report should list top 10 activities and how they are participating in those activities.


Group E: Google VS Facebook Business Model

Google and Facebook are not just popular they are also extremely successful financially. Founders of both Facebook and Google are billionaires now. Your task is to research business model of Google and Facebook. You'll study all the products and services offered by these companies and then explore where most of their revenues come from?


Group F: Telemedicine

Telemedicine allows medical professionals to treat patients remotely. Several Telemedicine projects have been implemented in India and these projects have helped save lives of thousands of people in rural India. Your task is to research one of such project and figure out how this project was technologically implemented. You have to outline the infrastructure and technologies that were used to implement this project. Finally, your report should propose a similar project for Nepal. You have to describe how to design and implement a similar system in Nepal. (You can find some hints in old issues of PC Quest Magazine. Also find out about activities and projects being run by Mr. Mahabir Pun)


Group G: Window Vs Linux

Linux and Windows are two popular operating systems. But these operating systems are also known for their bitter rivalry and competition. Linux users think that Windows is a big joke in terms of security. Windows users, on the other hand, think Linux is too user-unfriendly to be usable. Your goal is to perform a general study of both operating systems and outline their evolutions, features, strengths and weaknesses, and market share. Finally, the report should include your recommendation about which is a better operating system and why.
